Indian Shores, Florida
My one wish on our recent St. Petersburg trip is that we'd had more time to enjoy the beautiful beaches there. Our hotel was right across the road from the beach, so Landon and I decided on a romantic walk on the beach one day at sunset.
I'm glad that we managed to squeeze just a little time in for the beach because it was beautiful.
Here in Charleston, I live only about ten minutes from the Atlantic Ocean. Our beaches here are pretty, but every beach is different. All have sand and wind and salty water, but each one has its own unique personality.
The Indian Shores beach is wide and flat with fine white sand. We found some sand sculptures by some talented people as soon as we arrived on the beach; they seemed to greet us to the shore.
"And I’ll be doing whatever snow does in summer A drink in my hand, My snow up against the burning sand Probably getting gorgeously tanned in summer!" |
This sand throne looks a little better than my masterpieces that always resemble the inside of a sand bucket. |
We waded in the shallows as we watched the sunset. One thing I loved about the Indian Shores beach was the nearly perfect shallow area. Here in Charleston, many of our beaches are suffering from erosion, and some places have been warn away so much as to create a steep pathway down into the waves. I know that it's part of the cyclical process that beaches go through, but it was nice to see a flat beach currently unencumbered by erosion.
There were plenty of people out and about--it was like there was a party preparing for the sunset. It wasn't quite Mallory Square, but there was still an air of festivity among the people on the beach.
It was worth the wait! I couldn't take enough pictures--the light was so pretty. I ended up with about 200 sunset pictures, but I'll share two of the best ones with you:
What a way to end the day. I'd like to order one for everyday for the rest of my life, please.
