Eatin' on the Creek: Vickery's

If you're looking for a place to eat that's on the water in the Charleston area, you don't have to look far.

One of my absolute favorites, though, is Vickery's Bar and Grill in Mount Pleasant.

Vickery's Bar and Grill on Shem Creek

I’m a Charleston native, but I’m always discovering new things to do in Charleston.

If you’re new to this area, check out my first time visitors guide to Charleston, where I share even more of my favorite things to do, eat, and see!

There are places around here that make me so happy to call this corner of the world my home, and Vickery's is one of them.

High praise, I know.

The view is absolutely amazing, and you can chow down on some delicious food in a casual atmosphere all while watching dolphins frolic in Shem Creek.

As an added bonus, you get to watch tourists very, very tentatively try out kayaking for the first time since there's a watersports place a few doors down. Extra points if they fall out!

(I'm totally kidding. We Charlestonians love the people who love our home enough to visit it.)

Definitely try out the kayaking in Charleston harbor when you’re visiting as it is a great way to see the city.

My sister and I headed over on one of our weekly Sisters' Nights--we trade off taking each other out to dinner; sometimes we see a movie or go to the pool. It's a no husband/babies/boyfriend time, and we're pretty serious about it. Sisters are awesome.

Opt to sit outside. Hopefully, it will be warm enough to sit outside and drink a sweet tea.

We discussed my sister's love life (a favorite topic of conversation these days), my freelance writing stuff (I may have moaned over the fact that my article subjects weren't calling me back), and clothes. You know, normal sister talk.

It was enough to just sit out on the side deck and feel the breeze and hang out with my sister. It was vacation without any of the hassle.

Amber ordered the jerk chicken breast with plantain fries which was so good. Plantain fries should be a thing everywhere.

I got the portobello mushroom stack; it comes with roasted red peppers, provolone, a fried green tomato, and Parmesan artichoke spread. There's just so much going on with this sandwich that I don't even know what to say about it other than go. Go now. Eat it.

After dinner was (sadly) over and we couldn't stuff a single bit more into ourselves, we headed over the little wooden bridge to the Shem Creek park. There are a bunch of walkways and docks where you can see the crabs in the marsh, watch for dolphins in the creek, and wave at friendly boaters passing by. It's free, and it's open year round.

The Shem Creek area's one of the most popular in Mount Pleasant right now, so if you ever find yourself in Charleston, head over the big bridge and see what the East of the Cooper has to offer.

What places make you glad to live where you are? Have you ever been to Charleston?
