Simple Concept, Big Impact: Making Travel Easier with the Demi Hugger
I think it should be a rule that, when you have kids, you grow at least one more arm for every kid you bring into the family.
Yes, you'd probably look ridiculous with those octopus-like appendages, but let's be honest: as a parent, you already have barf in your hair and a mysterious stain on your pants, you can't remember where you put your keys (again), and there's likely a small human clinging to some part of you. So, ridiculous basically becomes a relative term.
Until the human race figures out that whole additional arms thing, parents are left to struggle on their own terms, navigating small humans who love to pretend that they are hard of hearing. While I adore traveling with my little Cosmos Mariners, it can be stressful to juggle the holding of small hands, the pushing of suitcases, and the organizing of carry-ons.
In a never ending effort to find ways to make family travel easier, I am willing to try anything once. Sometimes, I come across a product that is okay, but doesn't rock my world. But, other times, I luck up and discover something that automatically shoots to the how-did-I-live-without-this list.
Enter the Demi Hugger. This small, unassuming rectangle of fabric is quite deceiving, but, now that I've had the chance to play with it, I know it's going to be adding to our list of essential travel items.

The Demi Hugger was created and designed by Demetra Papas, the CEO of Demi Innovations. After struggling to balance her purse, suitcase, and drink while on the way to visit her cousin, Demi realized that there had to be a product on the market to help secure items to a suitcase. After some initial research, she discovered that what she'd imagined didn't exist--yet. She went to work designing and sewing up the first prototypes until she found one that was easy to use, versatile, and compact.
The first Demi Huggers were put on the market 3 years ago, and, today, Demi Innovations is a small, but busy family run business in Massachusetts.
Demi pointed out to me that the neoprene hugger is unique from other travel products in that it has thick Velcro to secure the two sides, can be used either vertically or horizontally, and won't slow you down through security with metal zips or snaps.
I love that I can loop the Demi Hugger around my suitcase handle, put several items inside (ranging from a stuffed animal to a toiletries case to a backpack), and everything stays together while I'm rolling the case. Demi told me that the Hugger can be expanded to secure even large items like a guitar case, which is pretty impressive.
If I throw Gibson into our baby carrier while I also use the Demi Hugger, that means--in theory--I could pull my suitcase, carry the baby, and hold Britton's hand all at the same time. The world of travel with my two kids just got a lot more doable.
Even if you're not a big traveler, the Demi Hugger can be used for plenty of other uses. Demi mentioned that she'd just tried it out on the back of her bicycle: when she attaches it to her rear wheel rack, she can easily transport items without worrying that they're going to shift mid-ride. Another customer uses the Hugger on her oxygen tank to secure tubing, so the possibilities stretch far beyond the obvious travel uses.

I was provided a complimentary Demi Hugger for the purposes of this review. As always, all opinions are my own.
