Cloudveil Jackson Hole Hotel Review: Good for Families?

The Cloudveil Hotel in Jackson Hole is beautiful—but is it a good place to base your family while visiting Jackson, Wyoming?

My kids and I stayed here at the end of our visit to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, and I recommend the hotel for other families looking for that perfect balance of Western ruggedness and effortlessly casual.

Plus, the hotel is within easy walking distance of everything Jackson has to offer.

Below, you’ll find my in-depth review on this hotel’s pros and cons with an eye on why families should stay here.

As always, you’ll get my honest opinion—I wasn’t compensated in any way for this hotel stay—and plenty of photos to help you decide if the Cloudveil is the right fit for your kids, too.

Where is the Cloudveil Hotel located?

Jackson, Wyoming, an adorable town that is perfect for any number of outdoor family adventures.

You’re less than 10 miles to the National Elk Refuge where you can go on a sleigh ride through the elk herds, about 30 miles from the entrance to Grand Teton National Park, and around 60 miles to the southern entrance to Yellowstone National Park.

Plus, there are ski resorts in the larger Jackson Hole area that offer up excellent skiing during the winter months.

The Cloudveil puts your family in the heart of Jackson, Wyoming, just yards from the Jackson Town Square and the famous elk antler arch.

The hotel is located at 112 Center Street, which is diagonal to the square, and is just across the square from the famous (but not really kid friendly) Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.

The Square outside of the Cloudveil is also where you’ll be able to see the Jackson Hole Town Square shootout, a free event starting at 6 PM every night but Sunday.

The hotels location means that you can quickly head out to explore the town on foot without having to worry about moving your car again.

You’re just around the block from our favorite place to eat in Jackson, the Bunnery Bakery and Restaurant, which offers up kid-friendly sandwiches, soups, and desserts in a quaint cafe-style environment.

We did have to head out to get groceries—there is a Whole Foods and an Albertson’s within a 15 minute drive—but other than that, we were able to do a lot just by walking around Jackson.

In short, you can’t do much better on location if you’re looking for a great place to stay with your family in Jackson.

Cloudveil Hotel Review: Pros and Cons

The Cloudveil is part of the Autograph Collection from Marriott, which means that it isn’t your typical hotel.

The Autograph Collection is a curated group of hotels that feel like independently run locations, but are managed under the Marriott umbrella.

So, if you have brand loyalty to Marriott and want to collect those sweet rewards points, you can do so, but you’ll also get an upscale, unique experience that’s far beyond a standard 2 doubles-and-a-breakfast-buffet room.

What We Loved about the Cloudveil

There are plenty of things that we loved about the Cloudveil. First and foremost, it has an incredible vibe that’s unlike any other hotel we’ve visited, and the location can’t be beat.

Convenient Location

As I noted before, the hotel is conveniently located on the town square, and it’s the only hotel that close to the heart of the town.

While there are plenty of other hotels in a 2-4 block radius of the square, the Cloudveil is the only one that literally borders that central area.

If you’ve never been to Jackson and want plenty of time to explore the city, the location alone is worth staying here.

Parking in Jackson can be a bit of a pain at peak times, so being able to stroll around everywhere is a big bonus for us.

Beautiful interiors

This hotel made me want to redo my house’s entire aesthetic when I got home! (Though, our 120-year-old Southern farmhouse probably wouldn’t vibe too well with the Wild West feel of the hotel!)

Everything is done in wrought iron and black metals, beige and straw-colored neutrals, wood, and bone.

The valet we had at check-in told us that the hotel interior designer was a close friend of his family, so he had gotten some insight into why she selected the fabrics, feel, and colors that she did.

She was going for interiors that married the intense beauty of this part of Wyoming with the long history of cowboys in this area.

The result is a moody, equestrian-esque interior with a Western cabin feel.

The big fireplace in the lobby, the textured fabrics in the room, and the eclectic and layered decor made this hotel feel like a huge cabin belonging to someone who loves riding the range.

All in all, the feel of the hotel perfectly matches Jackson’s laid-back-but-make-it-luxe vibe.

On-site pool

Wyoming gets cold for 6-8 months out of the year, so many hotels don’t bother with a pool.

However, the Cloudveil includes both a pool and a hot tub for their guests, and we saw many people making use of both during our visit.

The pool is relatively small, but considering both the weather and the central location of the hotel, I think the designers did the best they could.

The pool is located right off of the lobby near the glass-enclosed walkway to the first floor guest rooms.

Free snacks and drinks

This was my kids’ favorite part of this hotel!

Guests of the Cloudveil have 24-hour access to several snack and drink option, and we tried all of them.

The water bottles that came complimentary in our room

There’s a trail mix bar where you can select from 4 different snack mixes. My kids loved the traditional trail mix with peanuts, pecans, and chocolate candies, while I preferred the spicy trail mix with cashews, sesame sticks, and cheddar squares.

When you’re traveling with kids, you can’t ever have enough snacks, so this option on our hallway was amazing.

Next to the trail mix was a coffee/tea bar. Here, you could get hot water for tea or fresh coffee on demand, as well as a selection of tea bags.

If the drinks still weren’t hot enough for you, there’s a microwave to help you out.

Finally, the snack and drinks area had a drinks refrigerator which stayed stocked with cold water bottles and cans of various flavored La Croix.

It’s so much easier to stay hydrated when you’ve got options other than soft drinks, so I appreciated this little fridge full of goodies.

In our hotel room, we also got two branded aluminum water bottles.

These are incredibly nice, and they’ve held up beautifully in the months since we’ve been home from our trip.

While I know the room cost justified extras like this, I loved getting the water bottles as a little surcee.

Customer service oriented

When we arrived at the hotel from our time in Grand Teton National Park, we got there a bit earlier than check-in.

We decided to let the desk know we were there, but I didn’t expect anything more than that.

However, the front desk clerk was able to get us into a room right away, which was a relief since we could go ahead and move all of our stuff from the rental car to the room.

Check-in was super easy, which I always appreciate when I’m traveling with my kids.

When it was time to leave Jackson, we had a very early flight and needed to leave the hotel around 4 AM. We let the valet service know this ahead of time, and they had our rental car waiting for us with the heat on.

Overall, the hotel staff was wonderful.

Incredibly comfortable bedding

We stayed at a variety of places while visiting Wyoming, and the bed quality varied greatly.

However, the Cloudveil was the perfect ending to our trip as the mattresses were comfortable and the bedding was fluffy, clean, and beautiful.

The room came with extra pillows and blankets, which I appreciate as the kids always want to bundle up in hotel rooms, which are notoriously chilly.

There were also fluffy bathrobes in the room, which my kids loved putting on and snuggling in. The robes were adult-sized, but that didn’t seem to dampen their enthusiasm.

What We Didn’t Love about the Cloudveil

Pricing

Oh my gosh. Jackson, Wyoming, is expensive, so I was expecting something more than a $100-a-night special from the Cloudveil.

PIN ME!

But I was stunned to find out that the rack rate usually retails for anywhere between $500 and $4,000 A NIGHT.

Egads.

Thankfully, we were able to use a discount code—my brother in law works for an umbrella company of Marriott and so we get access to a friends and family discount.

That made our stay a much more reasonable $250 a night, which is a bargain for Jackson hotels in general.

Even if you don’t have the Marriott connection that my family has, you can still find discounts on the Cloudveil.

Use your points if you have the Marriott Bonvoy rewards program or a travel credit card, check their specials, and travel in the off-season.

Just be aware of the general pricing in this town, and you’ll have less sticker shock than I did.

Rooms were small for the price

Again, this might be my cheapness showing, but if rack rate on a hotel room is $500+ a night, I’m expecting loads of space.

However, space is at a premium in Jackson, Wyoming, so the rooms at the Cloudveil aren’t much bigger than a standard hotel room.

The bathroom in our room was incredible, and was definitely bigger than other bathrooms we’ve stayed in.

However, the living/sleeping area was pretty standard with a small table and 2 queen beds.

No breakfast included

Many high end hotels don’t offer up breakfast, which I think is the opposite of how it should be (i.e. if I’m paying more for a room, I should get some crazy awesome breakfast). However, that’s just not how the real world works, unfortunately.

Breakfast wasn’t included in our room price, but it was available at the restaurant off the lobby for $10 per person.

My kids, especially my younger kid, still pick at their food, so we skipped the on-site breakfast and had pastries from the Bunnery.

Valet parking required

I’m not a fancy person when it comes to parking. Just show me a spot—any spot—and let me park my car there.

This might be why I don’t go out of my way to use a valet service.

At the Cloudveil, their website mentions that they offer valet service, but that there is complimentary on-street parking by the hotel.

However, when we asked at check-in about the complimentary option, the desk clerk noted that the parking lot was about a block and a half away. Since we were leaving super, super early the morning of our flight back home, I didn’t want to walk in the dark with 2 kids and suitcases just to save a few bucks.

So, we went with the valet parking, which was $30 a day.

While it did add money to an already expensive stay, it was nice having the car ready and waiting for us at 4 in the morning.

No place to make food

While it’s not a deal breaker, I like to have a place to warm up food or quickly make snacks when we’re traveling.

The rooms at the Cloudveil aren’t suites, so we didn’t have that option beyond whatever we could do in the room’s microwave.

Given that Jackson is so expensive, it would’ve been nice to have a kitchenette in the room to at least make sandwiches or light meals.

That being said, we made do with the complimentary snack bar in the hotel and the food we’d bought elsewhere in Jackson, so this is a minor quibble.

Final Thoughts on the Cloudveil Jackson Hole

Ultimately, I would absolutely return to the Cloudveil with my kids!

The location is incredible, and the interiors are the perfect match to Jackson’s overall atmosphere.

I loved that the hotel wasn’t just a hotel, but it felt like a destination unto itself.

And unlike other luxury hotels we’ve stayed at, the Cloudveil didn’t feel just as if it was appealing to upperclass retirees. We definitely weren’t the only family that I saw during our stay, and the guests spanned a wide range of ages.

It’s great as a base to explore the larger Jackson Hole area, and I loved how walkable the town of Jackson was from the hotel.

If I had to try somewhere else in the same area, I’d opt for the Springhill Suites (also by Marriott) on 150 West Simpson Avenue, about 7 blocks south in Jackson.

While the hotel of the Springhill Suites doesn’t have the ambiance of the Cloudveil, it is cheaper with more space.

While staying at a cheaper option is definitely tempting, our experience at the Cloudveil won us over, with my 10-year-old even calling it “the best hotel she’s ever stayed at.”

That’s a good enough review to have us return the next time we’re in the area!
